Clients are given the respect of the highest level of confidentiality. There are, however, important exceptions to confidentiality that are legally mandated. In general terms, these exceptions require:

Confidentiality will be respected in all cases, except as noted above. In those additional cases where the maintenance of confidentiality is, in the therapist's judgment, destructive to you, the therapist will inform you of his or her concern, and you will have the final decision as to whether or not confidentiality is maintained.

Email and Text Policy
- Email and texting cannot be used for emergencies. For emergencies, contact 911 or go to your nearest emergency room.
- Texting and emailing can be used to change, schedule, and cancel appointments, unless otherwise stated by your clinician.
- Only your personal clinician, at the Counseling Center, will have access to your emails and texts.
- Allow at least 48 hours for your clinician to respond to your emails and texts. If you do not hear back from them, please follow-up your communication with a phone call.
- Due to security and confidentiality issues, please do not include sensitive information in emails or texts.
- Please know that there are limitations to using email and text, and confidentiality cannot always be guaranteed due technical difficulties. To ensure complete confidentiality, please save all highly sensitive information for the counseling session.
